Nagpur: A free trade agreement (FTA) with India can not only bring down the tariff but also make business deals happen faster, said Yogev Meushar, head of economic and commercial mission of Israel in Mumbai.Meushar added that the move can open up a number of sectors. “For example, the medical devices made in Israel would be much more easily available for the Indian market, apart from a host of other products and services,” Meushar said during an event organised by Indian Chamber of International Business in Nagpur on Tuesday. The latest rounds of Indo-Israel FTA talks were held in Feb this year. However, the minister of commerce recently said the negotiations with Israel and the six-nation GCC bloc have been temporarily paused amid the West Asia crisis.Meanwhile, in Nagpur, Israel’s economic mission made a push for Israeli agrotech companies in the Indian market. “There is much to offer, especially technologies that enable large-scale farming with limited water, and even drone technology. There can be joint ventures under the Make In India initiative in the farm sector. The companies keen to join hands with Indian partners deal in sectors like the use of drones in agriculture, AI and water management,” added an official.Bullish on an FTA with India, the Israeli officials are also exploring tie-ups with companies in the mining sector around Nagpur.
