Mumbai: The state Indian Medical Association (IMA) on Friday threatened a shutdown of medical services if the govt went ahead with granting Maharashtra Medical Council registration to homeopathy doctors holding the Certificate Course in Modern Pharmacology (CCMP) before the Bombay High Court delivers its verdict.The IMA Maharashtra warning came a day after medical education minister Hasan Mushrif chaired a meeting at Mantralaya where officials and representatives of integrated medicine associations approved the commencement of the CCMP registration process from July 27.On Friday, IMA Maharashtra urged the govt to wait until the HC hears the matter on August 13 and 14. Referring to the govt’s recent decision to abolish the compulsory MBBS bond after concluding there is no shortage of MBBS doctors, the state IMA questioned the need to continue the CCMP route. Maharashtra started the Certificate Course in Modern Pharmacology (CCMP) for BHMS doctors to address a shortage of medical professionals in rural and remote areas, legally empower qualified homeopaths in basic modern medicine, and implement state law amendments.IMA Maharashtra demanded that the registration process be halted until the HC’s verdict and warned that if registrations begin on July 27, it would launch statewide protests, including a medical services shutdown, to protect patient safety and the judicial process.
