Ranchi: Operation Sindoor demonstrated that India is among the few nations capable of using indigenous technology to defend its sovereignty, Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) director general (electronics and communication systems) Dr Binay Kumar Das said on Wednesday.He was addressing the third convocation ceremony of Sarla Birla University in Ranchi.
Referring to the Akash and BrahMos missile systems deployed during the operation, he said both were developed using indigenous technology, adding that the Indian Army and citizens place their trust in weapons made in India.He said India is a peace-loving nation and must possess adequate arms and ammunition to safeguard peace globally.“Thirty years ago, when India’s missile programme began, we did not fully understand how to build such systems. After nearly 100 failed attempts, we succeeded in developing missiles. Today, India is recognised as a global missile power,” he said.Das expressed pride in contributing to India’s defence manufacturing capabilities, which are being used to protect the nation.Speaking as the chief guest, Governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar advised students not to fear failure and to move forward with discipline and self-confidence. He urged them to use their skills for the betterment of the state and the country, and described youth power as vital to achieving the vision of ‘Viksit Bharat’.During the ceremony, ISRO chairman Dr V Narayanan, Das, Rajya Sabha MP Gobind Bhai Dholakia, and noted archery coach and Padma Shri awardee Purnima Mahto were conferred honorary doctorates by the university. ISRO director Dr D Gaurishankar received the honour on behalf of the chairman.A total of 1,331 students from various disciplines received their degrees. Thirty-two students were awarded the ‘Basant Kumar Sarla Birla Swarna Padak’ for securing top positions in their respective subjects, while 10 scholars were conferred doctoral degrees.
