Ahmedabad: They cannot hear or speak, yet many such parents are determined that their children do not inherit the same silence.At the ENT department of Sola Civil Hospital, the experts shared stories of resilience and hope as March 3 was celebrated as World Hearing Day. This year’s theme focused on hearing care for all children.Dr Nina Bhalodiya, head of the ENT department at Sola Civil Hospital, said that they saw multiple cases where children were brought in by parents who were speech and hearing impaired.“In several cases, their grandparents or other relatives travelled from different parts of the state to get the implant that gives the gift of hearing, and by extension speech, to the children. These parents experienced what it felt like not to have hearing or speech, and they did not want the same life for their kids. The majority of them came from lower socioeconomic strata,” she said.
