Nagpur: A 47-year-old man from Seloo in Wardha district gave a new lease of life to four patients through organ donation after being declared brain dead at AIIMS Nagpur.The deceased, Atul Gajananrao Deole, met with a road accident on April 4 while travelling on a two-wheeler near Butibori. Despite intensive treatment over 5 days, doctors diagnosed him with severe brain haemorrhage and declared him brain dead after completing all protocols.Following counselling by the hospital’s transplant coordinators Pooja Sulaniya, Divya Gaygole and Vishal Handuge, his wife, Rajni, and family members consented to donate his organs. His liver, kidneys and corneas were retrieved and allocated as per national guidelines through ZTCC Nagpur.As per allocation by ZTCC Nagpur under president Dr Manish Shrigiriwar and secretary Dr Shailesh Gahukar, the liver was given to a 56-year-old patient while kidneys were transplanted into patients at AIIMS Nagpur and a private hospital. Corneas were retained at AIIMS.The brain death panel included Dr Shrigiriwar, Dr Sucheta Meshram, Dr Sourabh Zambre and Dr Kiran Prathipati, while transplant coordination was led by Dinesh Mandape.Hospital staff paid tribute by forming a green corridor and ensured respectful transportation of the donor’s body to his hometown.
