Kanpur: Police on Wednesday arrested a man for allegedly duping people by promising jobs while posing as a police officer and intimidating victims using a fake lighter pistol. Two of his associates are currently absconding. Police recovered a car, a fake pistol, cartridges, two mobile phones, silver and gold rings, an ID card and a police uniform from him. DCP (Central) Atul Kumar Srivastava said that Anwarganj police arrested Sanjay Kumar Singh, a resident of Dosti Nagar in Unnao, on Kalpi Road. He impersonator was wearing a sub-inspector’s uniform despite. During the search, police recovered a fake police ID card and a fake CBI ID card from his possession. Investigations revealed that Sanjay, along with his associate Durgesh Kumar Savita, who was dismissed from service, and another accomplice Vijay Singh Chauhan, cheated job aspirants by assuring them of employment. The accused allegedly rented private schools and hotels in Lucknow, where they conducted fake examinations and interviews. After collecting money from candidates, they delayed the process by citing pending results. When victims demanded refunds, the accused allegedly threatened them by flaunting police uniforms. The car was found fitted with a number plate bearing the designation of the joint commissioner of the Income Tax Department, Lucknow. The DCP said that raids are underway to trace and arrest the two absconding accused, and further investigation is underway. tnn
