BATHINDA: A co-owner of a Ludhiana-based immigration consultancy has been arrested for allegedly submitted fake bank documents in visa applications to Australiam immigration authorities to show students who went through it have enough money to fund their education abroad.The students, who paid Rs 10-15 lakh to the accused, were kept in the dark about the forgery, it has been alleged. Though at least 40-45 students have been confirmed to have been duped by the accused, this number could go up to 300-400 students, said Barnala SSP Sarfaraz Alam on Thursday.Barnala police have arrested Gurbaz Singh, partner of Ludhiana-based Smart Study Immigration, said SSP Alam.The other partner, Harsimran Singh, too is an accused. The FIR has been registered on a complaint by Harwinder Singh, manager of One Global Immigration Agency in Bhikhi, Mansa. In his complaint to Mansa police, Harwinder alleged that Harsimran had contacted his firm and told it he would arrange documents for students who don’t have enough funds.
