Chennai: After several dry and warm days, rainfall may return to the city. The IMD has forecast light to moderate intensity rainfall on Saturday, though heavy rain activity is likely to remain confined to a few southern districts. The showers may be triggered by a weakening low-pressure area and another low-pressure system that may form over the Bay of Bengal. However, day temperatures may not see any significant change.“The city and the suburbs may receive light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms and lightning over some areas. The sky may be partly cloudy. Temperatures may be at a maximum of 30–31C and a minimum of around 24C,” an IMD bulletin said. “Southern districts may receive heavy rainfall, with intensity gradually reducing northwards. Chennai and surrounding areas may receive light to moderate spells between Feb 21 and 23,” said Mahesh Palawat, chief meteorologist, Skymet Weather. TNN
