Ranchi: IMD has issued a yellow warning of heavy rainfall for Ranchi, Khunti, Gumla and Lohardaga districts for three days starting Sunday, following the formation of a low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal.The weather office also predicted spells of heavy rain in several adjoining districts during the period.Director of Ranchi Meteorological Centre, Baburaj P P, said the low-pressure area formed over the northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining Gangetic West Bengal-north Odisha coast at 5:30 am on Saturday.“Under the influence of the system, isolated heavy rainfall is likely over Ranchi, Khunti, Gumla, Lohardaga, Simdega, West Singhbhum, East Singhbhum and Seraikela-Kharsawan districts from the morning of July 26 to the morning of July 27,” he said.

The IMD bulletin indicated that these districts could receive between 64.5 mm and 115.5 mm of rainfall during the period.From Monday morning to Tuesday morning, heavy rainfall is forecast for Ranchi, Khunti, Gumla, Lohardaga, Simdega, West Singhbhum, Chatra, Hazaribag, Ramgarh and Latehar districts.The weather office has extended a similar forecast from Tuesday morning to Wednesday morning for Ranchi, Khunti, Gumla, Lohardaga, Chatra, Hazaribag, Ramgarh and Latehar districts, raising the possibility of prolonged wet conditions across large parts of central and southern Jharkhand.IMD also warned of thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds reaching speeds of 30-40 kmph at isolated places across the state. Light to moderate rainfall is likely at many places on Sunday, Monday and Thursday, while rain is expected at most places across the state on Tuesday and Wednesday.There was widespread rainfall across the state over the past 24 hours till Saturday morning. Light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms was reported from many places.Simdega received the highest rainfall of 120.8 mm during the period, according to IMD data. Authorities are likely to keep a close watch on low-lying areas and rain-related disruptions as the system is expected to intensify monsoon activity over the state.
