Srinagar, July 26: The India Meteorological Department, IMD, has forecast that the ongoing wet spell across J&K will continue throughout the week, with widespread rainfall, thunderstorms and isolated heavy showers expected in several parts of the Union Territory.
According to the Meteorological Centre, Srinagar, scattered light rain and thundershowers are likely across J&K during the next 24 hours. Weather activity is expected to increase gradually over the coming days, bringing fairly widespread rainfall across most districts.
The seven day forecast indicates scattered rainfall in Kashmir on July 26 and 27. Rainfall is expected to become fairly widespread from July 28 to August 1. In the Jammu division, widespread rainfall has been forecast on most days during the same period.
The IMD has also warned of isolated heavy rainfall in parts of the Jammu division between July 28 and August 1. Thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds are also likely during this period.
The department has advised residents and travellers to remain alert, as heavy rain could trigger landslides, mudslides, shooting stones, flash floods and waterlogging in vulnerable areas, particularly along hilly roads and low lying locations.
Meanwhile, the weather office said maximum temperatures remained well below normal during the past 24 hours. Temperatures were 6 to 10 degrees Celsius below normal in several parts of Kashmir and 1 to 7 degrees Celsius below normal across most areas of the Jammu division.
Authorities have urged people to follow weather advisories, avoid unnecessary travel during periods of intense rainfall and exercise caution in landslide prone areas.
