NEW DELHI: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places over Chhattisgarh, east Madhya Pradesh and Uttarakhand on Saturday, August 15, with heavy rain also likely across several parts of north, central, eastern, northeastern and western India.Thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds are also expected over several states.Delhi-NCR, Haryana, PunjabDelhi, Haryana and Punjab are likely to receive heavy rainfall at isolated places on August 15, with fairly widespread rainfall expected across Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi and Punjab.The IMD forecast shows rainfall activity continuing across the region in the following days, although it is expected to become more scattered from August 16.Uttar PradeshUttar Pradesh is likely to see heavy rainfall at isolated places on August 15, with fairly widespread rainfall expected across the state.The IMD has also forecast heavy rain over east Uttar Pradesh on August 15 and during August 18-19, while west Uttar Pradesh may see heavy rainfall on August 15 and August 18.Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, UttarakhandUttarakhand is likely to witness heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places on August 15, while Himachal Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir-Ladakh are expected to receive heavy rain at isolated places.Fairly widespread to widespread rainfall is likely across the western Himalayan region, with heavy rain activity continuing in parts of the region over the coming days.Madhya Pradesh, ChhattisgarhEast Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh are among the areas facing the possibility of very heavy rain on August 15.The IMD has forecast fairly widespread to widespread rainfall over east Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, with heavy to very heavy rain likely at isolated places.Thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds are also expected over parts of Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh.Bihar, Jharkhand, OdishaBihar, Jharkhand and Odisha are also likely to receive heavy rainfall at isolated places on August 15. The IMD has forecast fairly widespread to widespread rainfall over Odisha and Jharkhand, while thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds are expected over parts of the region.Odisha and Jharkhand could continue to see heavy rainfall through the next few days.West Bengal, Sikkim and NortheastSub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim, as well as Gangetic West Bengal, are likely to receive heavy rainfall at isolated places on August 15.Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya and the northeastern states are also likely to see heavy rain, with thunderstorms and lightning forecast over several parts of the region.Maharashtra and GujaratMadhya Maharashtra is likely to receive heavy rainfall at isolated places on August 15, while Vidarbha may also see heavy rain. Konkan and Goa are expected to receive widespread rainfall, while Gujarat may witness heavy rain at isolated places.Rainfall activity is expected to continue across parts of Maharashtra over the following days.South IndiaTamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal are likely to see isolated to scattered rainfall on August 15, while Kerala and coastal Karnataka are expected to receive fairly widespread to widespread rainfall.Thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds are likely over parts of Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, while strong surface winds are expected over Andhra Pradesh, interior Karnataka and Telangana.Flash flood risk in several districtsThe IMD has warned of low to moderate flash flood risk during the 24 hours till 11.30 am on August 15 across parts of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana-Chandigarh-Delhi and west Uttar Pradesh.Similar risks have been flagged for parts of Chhattisgarh, east Madhya Pradesh, Odisha and Jharkhand.Weather outlookThe IMD’s August 15 forecast points to active monsoon conditions across large parts of India, with very heavy rainfall possible over Chhattisgarh, east Madhya Pradesh and Uttarakhand.Heavy rain is also expected in parts of Delhi-NCR, Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, West Bengal, the Northeast, Maharashtra and Gujarat.The weather department has advised people in areas likely to receive heavy rain to check traffic conditions before travelling, follow local advisories and avoid waterlogging-prone areas and vulnerable structures.
