Yavatmal: Excise department in Yavatmal carried out what is being considered its biggest operation to date, seizing liquor and related material worth over 1 crore, being transported towards Wardha district, where prohibition is in force.The department had received inputs that large quantities of country-made and foreign liquor were being transported daily from Yavatmal to Wardha.
Joint team from the Yavatmal and Wardha set up a checkpoint near Ramtirth village in Ralegaon taluka and seized a huge consignment of illicit liquor along with one container and two four-wheeler vehicles. The total value of the seized liquor and vehicles is estimated to be around 1 crore.Duplicate stickers of several well-known foreign liquor brands were also seized. The police and excise authorities are now investigating source of the liquor and where it was allegedly being manufactured. Parag Navalkar, deputy commissioner, state excise department, said, “The consignment included liquor originating from Madhya Pradesh and Goa. Further investigation is underway.”
