Heavy police deployment was seen at the venue in view of the protest call. The demonstration comes amid CJP’s campaign against the Election Commission over the SIR exercise. The organisation has alleged irregularities in the process and is demanding action against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.CJP spokesperson Saurav Das told news agency ANI that Kumar was a “traitor” and claimed that people across the country would support the organisation’s demand for his ouster.“As you can see, we are starting from Mumbai today. This is going to be a very big protest,” Das said.Referring to the earlier campaign against then Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan, Das said the youth had previously taken to the streets demanding his resignation and claimed a similar response would be seen in Mumbai over the demand concerning Kumar.“The youth of Mumbai are hitting the streets again. Today, a massive protest is going to happen at Shivaji Park,” Das said, appealing to Mumbaikars to join the demonstration.Police presence was stepped up at Shivaji Park on Friday in view of the protest call, with CJP and other civil society groups expected to demonstrate against the Election Commission and the alleged irregularities in the SIR process.(With agency inputs)
