Pune: Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) carried out a demolition drive against illegal constructions on Nagar Road on Tuesday.The drive was held in Lohegaon and Kharadi. Unauthorised structures spanning over 21,000sqft were demolished during the operation, according to a press release issued by the PMC. “The PMC issued notices to these properties. When no action was taken by the property owners, the demolition drive was conducted,” said Somnath Bankar, head of the PMC’s anti-encroachment department.The civic administration carried out the drive in both existing and newly merged areas. The PMC appealed to citizens in newly merged villages not to buy plots in illegal layouts or carry out unauthorised construction on them until the Development Plan (DP) of the Pune Municipal Corporation is sanctioned.PMC officials said, “The demolition was carried out in accordance with the provisions of the Unified Development Control and Promotion Regulations (UDCPR), which functions in conjunction with the Maharashtra Regional and Town Planning (MRTP) Act, 1966. Typically, when there’s a violation of building permission rule, authorities issue a notice under Section 53 of the MRTP Act, directing the owner to either remove or regularise the unauthorised work within a specified period.
