Dumka: Police have busted an illegal arms manufacturing unit in Dumka’s Hansdiha area and seized a lathe machine along with several tools allegedly used to fabricate pistols and country-made firearms.Acting on specific inputs, a police team raided a house near Ramgarh Mor, close to the railway overbridge, on Wednesday night. The premise was subsequently sealed for further investigation.The raid followed a tip-off from the Kolkata STF, which recently arrested two persons in an illegal arms trafficking case. During interrogation, the accused allegedly disclosed that firearms were being manufactured in the Hansdiha area.Based on the information, Dumka police identified the suspected premises, cordoned off the area and conducted a search operation. Dumka SP Pitambar Singh Kherwar later visited the site and reviewed the seized equipment.“We received specific information about the suspected manufacture of illegal firearms and conducted a raid accordingly. A lathe machine and other equipments have been recovered, and the premises has been sealed,” Kherwar said on Thursday. He added that investigations are underway to verify whether the machinery was being used for manufacturing illegal weapons and to identify those involved.Police are probing the ownership and operation of the premises, the source of the machinery, the scale of the alleged arms manufacturing activity and its possible links to an interstate trafficking network.
