Gandhinagar: The Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar (IITGN) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Indian AI Research Organisation (IAIRO) to strengthen collaboration in artificial intelligence research, academic programmes, innovation and talent development.
The partnership aims to promote joint research projects, develop AI infrastructure through external funding, and create opportunities for collaborative grant applications, the two institutions said.
Under the agreement, IITGN and IAIRO will jointly organise short-term courses, certificate programmes, conferences, workshops and seminars in artificial intelligence. The collaboration will also facilitate faculty exchanges, research internships, adjunct appointments and joint supervision of doctoral students, along with shared access to research infrastructure and computational facilities, subject to institutional policies.
Speaking on the collaboration, Rajat Moona, Director, IIT Gandhinagar, said the partnership would strengthen India’s AI research and innovation ecosystem by bringing together complementary expertise in research, talent development and innovation.
“AI is already transforming sectors such as healthcare, life sciences and drug discovery, and its impact will continue to expand across industries. This collaboration will help deliver meaningful outcomes that contribute to India’s growing AI capabilities,” he said.
Vimal Mishra, Dean, Research and Development at IIT Gandhinagar, said the partnership seeks to create opportunities for collaborative research, advanced AI education and technology development aligned with national priorities.
Amit Sheth, Founding Director and CEO of IAIRO, said the collaboration would support academic research, applied innovation and industry engagement as part of the organisation’s efforts to strengthen India’s AI ecosystem.
IAIRO, which is based in Gujarat International Finance Tec-City (GIFT City), will work with IIT Gandhinagar on research, training and innovation initiatives aimed at expanding AI capabilities and developing skilled talent.
