New Delhi: Delhi University has set an ambitious target of entering the world’s top 200 universities within the next five years after improving its position by nearly 200 places in the QS World University Rankings since 2022.
Speaking at the university’s 1283rd Executive Council meeting on Thursday, Vice-Chancellor Yogesh Singh said Delhi University had climbed from the 521-530 band in the QS World University Rankings 2022 to 322nd place in the 2027 edition, describing the improvement as a reflection of the collective efforts of its faculty, students and staff.
“Our target is to bring Delhi University among the world’s top 200 universities in the next five years,” Singh said.
He noted that the university’s overall QS score had increased from 23.5 in 2022 to 43.8 in 2027, while also claiming that Delhi University ranked first among Indian universities in the latest edition.
Alongside the Vice-Chancellor’s remarks, the Executive Council approved several academic and administrative proposals, including the introduction of one-year postgraduate programmes through the School of Open Learning in five subjects after UGC approval.
The Council also approved a Semester Away Programme under the Undergraduate Curriculum Framework (UGCF) 2022 in collaboration with foreign higher education institutions to expand international academic opportunities for students.
Among other decisions, the EC approved recommendations on pay protection for eligible faculty members appointed through due process before securing regular positions and cleared a voluntary group insurance scheme for university employees, including contractual staff. Singh also clarified that there was no proposal under consideration to remove contractual non-teaching employees.
