But a video from IIT Bombay has shown one being used in a very different setting, for stray dogs on the campus.The unusual idea has caught social media attention, with users discussing the digital profiles linked to the animals. Some are curious about how the system works, while others are already asking whether something similar can be used for street dogs in their own areas.
A scan brings up the dog’s details
The dogs are given a belt with a QR code attached to it. Scanning the code opens information connected to that particular animal.Explaining the system in the video, a man says, “It has a QR code and a belt attached here. It is provided by an IIT Bombay technician; if you scan it, you can find out its Aadhaar ID, where it has roamed, its various locations, its current location, and its vaccination status.”The profile can therefore be used to access the dog’s identification and other recorded information.
Vaccination certificate is available too

Location history is part of the record
The system also keeps information about where the dog has been spotted.The profile can show locations where the animal was previously scanned, along with its current location. Its usual area in Powai is also mentioned in the information.This gives the digital record a location-based element alongside the dog’s identification and vaccination details.
Users ask if they can get it for street dogs
The video has prompted several people to ask about getting similar QR tags for dogs outside the campus.“Can I Get This For My Street Dogs?” one user asked.Another wrote, “How can get this qr?”There were also calls for the idea to be used more widely.“That great, Why can’t similar application be there all over India?,” a user commented.Another person wrote, “Please make this implement all over India for our dogesh.”
‘Dogesh Bhai is a citizen’
The comments also took a humorous turn, with users giving the digitally identified dogs their own social media moment.“Dogesh Bhai is a citizen,” one comment read.Another user joked, “Best Aadhar picture so far! Doggo rocked it, and everyone’s shocked!”Some commenters suggested that the concept could also be used at other locations.“This should be implemented in all the institution railway station airports.
