IIT Bhubaneswar has recorded its highest-ever campus placement performance, with more than 500 students securing job offers during the 2025-26 placement season, the institute said on Saturday.The placement drive, which began in Oct 2025 and concluded in July 2026, witnessed participation from leading public and private sector organisations across software, IT, consulting, manufacturing, oil and gas, semiconductors, fintech and other sectors. Recruiters included Google, Microsoft, NVIDIA, Reliance Industries, DE Shaw, Accenture, Zomato, Cisco, Samsung R&D, Tata Steel, L&T, Maruti Suzuki, Infosys, BPCL, HPCL, BEL and Engineers India Ltd, among others.More than 85% of undergraduate students and 71% of postgraduate students were placed. The median annual salary stood at Rs 15.3 lakh for undergraduate students and Rs 11.2 lakh for postgraduate students. The institute also received international job offers.IIT Bhubaneswar director Prof Shreepad Karmalkar attributed the achievement to the institute’s focus on academic excellence, research-led education and strong industry partnerships. Professor-in charge of the career development cell, Srikant Gollapudi, said the placement season remained robust despite global economic uncertainty and the growing impact of artificial intelligence, expressing confidence of sustaining the momentum in the coming academic year.Hony doctorate for KIIT founder

Educationist and KIIT, KISS and KIMS founder Achyuta Samanta was conferred his 75th honorary doctorate by Maharaja Ganga Singh University (MGSU), Bikaner, Rajasthan, recently in recognition of his contributions to education and social development.The honorary degree was presented during a special ceremony held at Raj Bhavan (Lok Bhavan) in Jaipur by Rajasthan governor and MGSU chancellor Haribhau Bagde. Rajasthan deputy chief minister and higher education minister Prem Chand Bairwa, MGSU vice-chancellor Manoj Dixit, registrar Yashpal Ahuja, ministers, MLAs and other dignitaries attended the event.According to the university, Samanta was selected for the honour after an extensive evaluation of his work in the fields of education, tribal empowerment and social welfare. National Commission for Women chairperson Vijaya Kishore Rahatkar was also conferred an honorary doctorate at the event.Expressing gratitude, Samanta thanked the governor and the university authorities for recognising his work and inviting him from Odisha. He said the honour would remain one of his cherished memories.Mental health awarenessFakir Mohan University, Balasore, organised a mental health awareness programme under the ministry of education’s MANODARPAN initiative on Friday to promote psychological resilience and emotional well-being among students and faculty. The event, organised by the department of applied psychology in collaboration with the Shaktishree Empowerment Cell, was presided over by vice-chancellor Santosh Kumar Tripathy. Former Delhi University professor Uday Nath Dash highlighted rising mental health challenges among youth and stressed the importance of emotional intelligence and resilience. Fakir Mohan Medical College psychiatrist Manas Ranjan Sahoo spoke on recognising early signs of mental illness and the need to overcome stigma through counselling and timely intervention.
