Nagpur: The Indian Institute of Management Nagpur (IIM-N) is planning to launch an integrated five-year BTech-MBA programme in collaboration with leading Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) at its upcoming Pune campus. The institute has also proposed a five-year integrated BBA-MBA programme at the new campus, which will come up on a 70-acre land parcel at Moshi allotted by the state govt on a nominal lease.Admissions to the proposed BTech-MBA programme are expected to be based on JEE scores instead of CAT, reflecting its engineering-focused entry pathway.Announcing the plans while unveiling IIM Nagpur’s Strategic Roadmap 2026-31 on Monday, director Prof Bhimaraya Metri said the Pune campus would serve as the institute’s next major growth centre with a strong focus on manufacturing, Industry 4.0, AI, digital technologies and IT management.“Under the integrated BTech programme, students shall study engineering for three-and-a-half years at IIT followed by one and a half years of management at IIM-N’s Pune campus. We are planning to tie up with a couple of IITs for this programme,” said Prof Metri. He was reappointed director of IIM-N for next 5 years recently. He said the flagship MBA programme shall be offered only at Nagpur while new and innovative courses like integrated BTech or BBA shall run from Pune. The Pune campus is likely to come up in the next two years.“Several IIMs have satellite centres, but our vision for Pune is fundamentally different. We want to create leaders who understand technology, management and industry as an integrated whole,” he said.Prof Metri said the institute is simultaneously expanding its Nagpur campus to accommodate larger intake for its flagship MBA, Exec MBA and other executive education, short-term programmes. He said a 300-bed capacity hostel for MBA students, a 100-double-bed hostel for executive MBA for working professionals, a 600-capacity mess and an equally sized separate hall above it are part of the ongoing campus expansion plans. The Pune expansion forms a key pillar of IIM Nagpur’s ambitious roadmap, which aims to transform the institute into a globally respected multi-campus business school over the next five years. Besides Pune, the institute also plans to establish a presence in Goa while strengthening collaborations with leading international universities through joint research, faculty and student exchange, and borderless learning initiatives. The roadmap also envisages positioning IIM Nagpur among India’s top three institutions in Executive Education and among world’s top 100 business schools. The institute plans to integrate artificial intelligence across its curriculum via AI-enabled pedagogy and the proposed MARVEL AI Research and Development Centre.Prof Metri said IIM Nagpur would continue to play a larger role in promoting entrepreneurship, public policy, rural development and industry partnerships across Maharashtra and Vidarbha. The institute is also expanding its work in energy and climate leadership through specialised programmes, collaborations and its proposed Centre of Excellence for Heat Resilience and Sustainable Cooling, while pursuing a net-zero campus vision.
