Patna: IGIMS celebrated its 31st Foundation Day on Sunday at the Regional Institute of Ophthalmology. On this occasion, experts from across the country discussed advances in oculoplasty and eye care.Bihar legislative council chairperson Awadhesh Narayan Singh inaugurated the programme in the presence of IGIMS director Dr Bindey Kumar and dean (academics) Dr Om Kumar.Padma Shri Dr A K Grover, Dr Mukesh Sharma of Jaipur, Dr E Ravindra Mohan of Chennai and Dr Praveen Mongre of New Delhi delivered lectures on oculoplasty. Dr Grover spoke about the evolution of the speciality in India, while Dr Sharma discussed ptosis and its surgical treatment. Dr Mohan spoke on blow-out fractures of the eye and Dr Mongre on eye cancers. More than 150 doctors and students attended the sessions.Dr Bibhuti Prassan Sinha, chief of Regional Institute of Ophthalmology, said the institute had emerged as a leading govt-sector eye care facility and was working on a project for early detection and treatment of retinopathy of prematurity.In 2025-26, the institute treated more than 1.5 lakh OPD and over 17,000 indoor patients and conducted more than 50,000 advanced investigations.
