Prayagraj: The Allahabad high court on Friday fixed April 27 as the next hearing date for the bail pleas of youths jailed for allegedly organizing an iftar party on a boat in the Ganga in Varanasi and dumping biryani waste into the river. The order was passed by Justice Vivek Varma on the bail application of Danish Saifi, one of the accused. On April 17, the high court granted a week to the state govt’s counsel to file a counter-affidavit on April, 24.Earlier, the accused’s counsel argued that the youths were falsely implicated. The state counsel opposed bail and sought time to file a counter-affidavit. Fourteen people were arrested for allegedly defiling a place of worship and hurting religious feelings after a video purportedly showing them holding an iftar meal on a boat and disposing of bones and waste of chicken biryani in the river Ganga went viral. The action followed a written complaint filed by BJP Yuva Morcha’s Varanasi unit chief Rajat Jaiswal on March 16.
