Hyderabad: Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) carried out operations across multiple parts of the city on Tuesday, clearing encroachments on a lake, park land, roads and a stormwater drain. In Manchirevula, Gandipet, HYDRAA removed encroachments on the 8.24-acre Nagireddy Kunta. Officials said the lake was partially occupied by private entities despite revenue and HMDA records identifying it as a water body. “A real estate firm fenced around four acres with a 20-foot-high tin-sheet wall, while another encroached on about three acres. A former public representative also occupied over an acre and sold it. Temporary structures and compound walls were demolished, and the lake area was fenced,” said AV Ranganath, HYDRAA commissioner. In Medchal-Malkajgiri district, encroachments along the 150-foot-wide Gandimaisamma-Miyapur road in Bowrampet area were cleared. Around 10 temporary sheds, including scrap shops, were constructed along the roadside and were being rented out. After issuing notices earlier, HYDRAA removed the structures, easing traffic movement. In Avushapur, Ghatkesar mandal, 1,440 square yards of land earmarked for a park in a 1987 layout was converted into six plots and put up for sale. Following complaints, officials intervened, stopped the sale and fenced the land, marking it as park space. In a separate case in Jubilee Hills, a stormwater drain was encroached on and converted into residential plots. “Two plots measuring 120 and 180 square yards were created and registered despite the presence of box drains carrying water from Madhapur metro station and the Peddamma temple side,” commissioner Ranganath said. After a complaint, HYDRAA, along with GHMC and other departments, conducted an inspection and removed temporary structures, including tin-sheet enclosures and watchman rooms. About 300 square yards of land was cleared, and the drain was restored. Officials said the actions were taken based on complaints and field verification.
