Hyderabad: Encroachments were cleared across the city and land earmarked for public use was reclaimed in a series of enforcement actions carried out by the Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) on Wednesday. The reclaimed land includes a playground in Mailardevpally and a park in Balanagar. In Mailardevpally, under Rajendranagar mandal in Rangareddy district, officials reclaimed a 6,500-square yard site reserved for a playground in an HMDA-approved layout. The land, part of a 188-acre layout with more than 1,800 plots, was encroached upon despite being designated for recreational use. Five under-construction G+3 buildings and two single-room structures built without permissions were demolished during the drive. Two occupied buildings were not disturbed.“The encroachments continued for nearly three years, with plots allegedly sold using notarised documents. GHMC earlier issued notices and passed demolition orders in 2024, but construction activity persisted. Following complaints from local residents, HYDRAA, along with GHMC and Revenue officials, conducted a field inspection and confirmed the violations before taking action,” said AV Ranganath, commissioner, HYDRAA.In a separate case, HYDRAA acted on complaints regarding a 968-square-yard park land in Akshaya Enclave in Balanagar. The layout, approved by HUDA in 1983 and spread over 7.12 acres, had a designated park area. Officials confirmed the land use during inspection and noted that GHMC already constructed a boundary wall and installed a gate at the site.“An individual allegedly attempted to encroach on the land using forged documents and obtained building permissions in 2019. Cases earlier were filed by GHMC and representatives of the local society,” Ranganath added. HYDRAA removed materials placed at the site and installed boards identifying it as park land.
