HYDERABAD: Three residents of a housing society in Hyderabad’s Madannapet area were taken into custody on Sunday after a packet containing bones and food waste was allegedly thrown near an Annadanam distribution area during Ganapati celebrations.The action soon triggered a protest by BJP leaders and Hindu organisations, news agency ANI reported.According to preliminary information, the material was allegedly thrown from the 2 BHK Police Housing Society while Ganesh immersion and an Annadanam programme were underway nearby, DCP Charminar Zone Kiran Khare said.The three persons detained have been identified as Mohammad Imran Qureshi, Arshiya Begum and Sameena, all residents of the housing society, the DCP said.Police reached the spot after receiving information about the incident and took the three into custody.Speaking to ANI, Khare said stringent action would be taken against those found responsible and that strong sections of law would be invoked.The incident led BJP leaders and members of Hindu organisations to stage a protest in Chanchalguda, alleging an attempt to defile Lord Ganesh prasad and demanding immediate action against those responsible.Protesters raised slogans during the demonstration, ANI reported.Earlier, police had said that a packet containing bones and food waste was found outside the Annadanam distribution area near the housing society.Three residents were accused of throwing the packet, following which they were taken into custody.Police said members of the Ganesh pandal organising committee also submitted a petition seeking action.Khare said the situation was now peaceful and traffic movement had returned to normal.He said the grievances of residents and protesters had been addressed and warned people against spreading rumours.Further investigation into the incident is underway.(With agency inputs)
