Patiala: Tension prevailed during a religious ceremony in Shergarh village near here on Tuesday after Haryana Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (HSGMC) president Jagdish Singh Jhinda and the committee’s former chief, Baljit Singh Daduwal, levelled allegations against each other. The incident occurred during the bhog of a former village head’s relative. Jhinda alleged that the dispute began when Daduwal spoke about administrative issues related to the Haryana committee during his address, to which he objected, saying a religious platform should not be used for such matters.Jhinda alleged that the situation escalated after the event, claiming he was followed by some persons for several kilometres and that his vehicle was stopped. He alleged that a firearm was flashed at him. There were no reports of any injuries.Daduwal called the claims “baseless”. He said he had been invited by the family to speak on religious history and did not make any remarks against Jhinda. He alleged that Jhinda disrupted the ceremony, adding that the event was recorded and available on social media.Following the incident, Jhinda and his supporters staged a protest at Tharua police post, seeking registration of a case. Police said complaints have been received from both sides.Patiala SSP Varun Sharma said the matter is being verified. “Appropriate action will be taken after examining the facts,” he said, adding that no case had been registered so far.
