Shimla: The Shimla police on Thursday said that they made the largest heroin seizure of the year, recovering 288 grams of ‘chitta’ during a targeted operation at the Shimla ISBT. The operation was carried out on March 24 by the special cell team under an ongoing anti-narcotics campaign. Acting on a tip-off, police intercepted a suspect on the first floor of the ISBT, who was allegedly attempting to sell the contraband to local youth. The accused was identified as Shamshad Ahmed, 42, a resident of Ambala district in Haryana. A search of his carry bag led to the recovery of the heroin consignment. An FIR under Section 21 of the NDPS Act was registered at Boileauganj police station. The accused was produced before a court on March 25 and remanded to six days of police custody.
