When Sali Christeson was working in the finance and tech industries more than 10 years ago, she realized there was a need for high-quality, stylish and functional workwear for women who didn’t want to fade into the background. In 2016, that revelation led her to launch Argent, a ready-to-wear label centered around suiting and other work-appropriate silhouettes. Originally launching with an array of neutral colors, the brand quickly expanded into bright, vivid offerings like coral reds, fuschias and electric blues.

“Customer reception informed where we’ve taken [the brand],” Christeson shared on The Fashionista Network. Just about every woman in a position of power has worn the brand, from Gloria Steinem and Kamala Harris to Hilary Clinton and Meghan Markle. Its fanbase exploded even more in the politics and advocacy space in 2020 after it launched its boldest (literally and figuratively) product to date: a hot-pink suit.

All the attention on the company helped Argent reach a whole new set of customers: everyday women who say the brand’s clothing has helped transform their perspective on their careers.

In the full episode on The Fashionista Network, Christeson discussed plans for the New York-based brand’s upcoming 10-year anniversary, what it took to launch a fashion brand without experience in the industry, how the brand plans to expand beyond its core offerings and more.
