Palanpur: Hours after being detained for domestic violence, a man allegedly died by suicide inside the lock-up at Idar police station in Sabarkantha district on Tuesday.Anil Vaghela, who was rounded up around 4am after his wife made a distress call to 112, used the drawstring of his pyjamas to hang himself from the metal grille.Deputy superintendent of police Smit Gohil told reporters that Vaghela’s wife called 112 alleging domestic violence around 3.30am. A team reached their house in Laxmangadh village, took Vaghela with them and handed him over at Idar police station.“Inside the lockup, he used the drawstring of his pyjamas to hang himself from the metal grille,” said Gohil.Personnel at the police station tried to resuscitate him with CPR but as he was not responding, they rushed him to a govt hospital where doctors declared him dead.An unnatural death case has been lodged and further investigation is underway to determine the circumstances leading to the death.Vaghela’s body was sent to Himmatnagar Civil Hospital for a forensic postmortem. “We are also probing if he had any previous criminal cases registered against him,” Gohil added.
