Police have verified his antecedents and are examining his role, if any.According to police, the accompanying man persuaded hotel staff to allot a room to the couple without obtaining their identity proofs. Police also dismissed rumours that he had posed as a police officer to secure the room. Investigators said he was a frequent visitor to the deceased man’s dhaba and had dropped the couple at the hotel in a Haryana-registered taxi before leaving.Sources said there was no movement from the room for nearly nine hours after the couple checked in. They neither contacted the reception nor ordered food or any other service.Suspecting something was wrong, hotel employees repeatedly knocked on the door but received no response. The police were subsequently informed, following which the bodies were discovered inside the room. Further investigation is in progress.
