Nagpur: A 28-year-old competitive exam aspirant, Akshay Gedam, has been arrested in connection with a road rage incident that claimed the life of Ravi Ambutalewar in New Khalashi Line area of Kamptee on Tuesday. The incident marks the second murder reported in Kamptee within 48 hours.The incident reportedly began when Ambutalewar, who was allegedly under the influence of alcohol, got into an argument with Gedam over obstruction of a narrow carriageway. Ambutalewar, who was into flex printing business, was travelling in a car with his friend, Mohnish Ambatkar, and they were on their way to meet Ambatkar’s father when they encountered Gedam walking with his family, about 50 metres from his residence.According to police sources, Ambutalewar got upset as Gedam and his family were blocking the narrow lane and asked them to move aside to allow the car to pass. The situation quickly escalated when Ambutalewar allegedly began abusing Gedam.In the ensuing altercation, Gedam allegedly grabbed Ambutalewar by the neck, pinned him against the bonnet of the car, and punched him. Ambutalewar collapsed on the road. He was rushed to hospital, where he succumbed to injuries.Initially, Old Kamptee police registered a case of accidental death, as preliminary findings suggested that the injuries may have resulted from the fall rather than a direct assault. However, following an autopsy at Mayo Hospital, doctors indicated constriction of neck along with head injuries as cause of death. Based on the forensic report, police registered a murder case and arrested Gedam. The probe is being conducted under the supervision of Zonal DCP Sandeep Pakhale.Sources stated that Ambutalewar had a history of alcohol addiction. His wife had reportedly separated from him in recent months due to his alcohol addiction, and Ambutalewar had previously attempted self-harm.
