Agartala: In a story of courage, compassion, and medical triumph, doctors at Tripura’s Unakoti district hospital defied stigma and overcame daunting odds to help an HIV-positive mother deliver a healthy baby girl. What could have been a tale of despair turned into one of hope, as modern medical expertise and human empathy combined to rewrite destiny.The journey began when a 25-year-old woman from Kumarghat subdivision was diagnosed with HIV during routine pregnancy tests. Married in 2023, she discovered her condition soon after, but the health department immediately stepped in, providing psychological support and close supervision from specialists to safeguard both mother and child.

On Feb 6, when she went into labour, she was admitted to the hospital’s department of obstetrics and gynaecology. Given her medical circumstances, doctors opted for a caesarean section.The following day, a team led by Dr Bhaskar Ray performed the surgery under strict protective protocols, successfully delivering a healthy baby girl. Both mother and child are stable and in good health.The team included anaesthesiologist Dr Amit Pal Choudhury, nursing officer Kaberi Saha, and OT assistants Suranjit Das and Subhankar Saha, who worked tirelessly to ensure safety and prevent complications.
