Ahmedabad: A 47-year-old man was left critically injured after a speeding car hit his two-wheeler from behind on SG Highway and drove on, pushing the bike for some distance. The incident occurred on Friday morning near the Pakwan Junction flyover, one of the busiest stretches. A case has been registered with SG-2 traffic police.The victim has been identified as Kamlesh Panakhaniya. In her complaint, his wife, Nehal, stated that Kamlesh left home for work around 6.30am. Around 9.45am, while he was heading to Sarkhej from Thaltej on the bridge, a car knocked him down near Shapath-I. He suffered grievous injuries to the head, chest and waist, along with multiple abrasions on his arms and legs.The accused was arrested on Friday night. He has been identified as Rohan Patel, 31, a metal trader and resident of Chandramani Society near Surdhara Circle in Thaltej.Eyewitnesses said the car did not stop after the hit, but continued to drive on, with the bike stuck in its grille, for several metres. The driver then allegedly fled the scene, leaving the injured man on the road. Passers-by alerted emergency services. The victim was first taken to a govt hospital in Sola and later shifted to a private hospital. Doctors said Kamlesh suffered head trauma and fractures and was in a semi-conscious condition.Police said they have registered a case of rash, negligent driving and causing injury. Investigators are also examining video footage recorded by commuters that captured parts of the incident. Officials said further action will be taken based on the findings of the probe.
