T’puram: Thiruvallom police arrested a history-sheeter for allegedly assaulting and attempting to murder a man at Pachalloor near Thiruvallom on Saturday afternoon.The accused was identified as Ramachandran, 34, of North Koonamthuruthy in Panathura, Thiruvallom. Police said he is a rowdy-sheet accused at Thiruvallom police station and is involved in around five assault cases registered at Thiruvallom and Kovalam police stations. According to police, the incident occurred around 3.30pm when the accused allegedly attacked Suresh, a native of Pachalloor, for questioning him over an assault on a bedridden neighbour. Police said Suresh intervened after witnessing the accused allegedly attacking his neighbour. Enraged by the objection, the accused allegedly assaulted Suresh using a metal bangle-like object he was carrying and repeatedly struck him on the head and face. The accused then allegedly dragged Suresh to the ground and attempted to strangle him, police said. Suresh sustained injuries in the attack and later sought treatment at a hospital. Police said the accused was taken into custody soon after the incident. The accused was produced in court and remanded in judicial custody.
