Udupi: MLA Yashpal Suvarna has alleged that Hindus are not safe under the Congress govt in Karnataka, claiming that the govt’s alleged appeasement of minorities has emboldened communal forces to attack members of the Hindu community without fear of police.Reacting to recent incidents in Bengaluru’s Basavanagudi and Puttur in Dakshina Kannada, the MLA said, “These incidents have raised questions among the public about whether the state has a functioning home department.”He alleged that the state govt had reduced the police department to a “puppet”, and that the police were failing to act despite such incidents taking place in full public view.Suvarna further warned that if “communal forces” continued to provoke Hindu activists and the Hindu community, the situation could force the community to respond. He cited the support extended by people to the Puttur bandh as evidence of growing public anger. He demanded the immediate arrest of those allegedly involved in the Basavanagudi incident, and urged home minister Priyank Kharge to take steps to maintain law and order in the state, instead of repeatedly targeting the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).“If the govt fails to act, people will lose faith in the state administration,” Suvarna said.
