Times News NetworkKanpur: After witnessing widespread showers over the past few days, the city experienced a dry spell on Wednesday as no rainfall was recorded and bright sunshine prevailed throughout the day. Despite the clear skies, temperatures remained below Tuesday’s levels, while high humidity continued to make weather conditions uncomfortable for residents.According to the weather observatory at Chandra Shekhar Azad University of Agriculture and Technology (CSA), the city’s maximum temperature settled at 34.5 degrees Celsius, about 1.5 degrees lower than Tuesday, while the minimum temperature was 26.8 degrees Celsius, almost unchanged from the previous day.The absence of rainfall coupled with high atmospheric moisture kept humidity at 83 per cent, resulting in sultry conditions across the city. South-westerly winds blowing at speeds between 2.9 kmph and 4.8 kmph failed to provide any significant relief from the oppressive humidity.Weather expert SN. Sunil Pandey of CSA University said no rainfall had been recorded in the city during the past 24 hours. However, he noted that the atmosphere continues to hold abundant moisture and fresh moisture influx associated with developing weather systems is expected to influence weather conditions over the coming days.He said that between July 29 and August 3, Kanpur division is likely to witness generally cloudy skies with intermittent spells of light to moderate rainfall. Isolated areas may experience gusty winds, drizzle, thunderstorms and lightning activity. Strong surface winds are also expected during this period, along with brief spells of sunshine, which are likely to maintain high humidity levels.Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast generally cloudy skies with light to moderate rain and thundershowers across all districts of Kanpur division during the next 24 hours.The IMD has also issued a lightning warning for isolated parts of the division in view of active monsoon conditions. During this period, the maximum temperature is expected to remain between 33 degrees Celsius and 35 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature is likely to range between 25 degrees Celsius and 27 degrees Celsius.For Kanpur city, the weather office has estimated a 65-70 per cent probability of intermittent rain or thundershowers during the afternoon and evening on Thursday. Meteorologists have advised residents to remain alert during thunderstorm activity and avoid taking shelter under trees or near electric poles during lightning.
