Despite fresh peace efforts, the Israel-Hezbollah war showed no signs of slowing, with intense strikes and rocket fire continuing across the border. Lebanon accused Israel of targeting civilians, hospitals, and rescue teams, alleging repeated “war crimes,” while the I.D.F. denied the claims, saying militants operated from civilian sites. Casualties surged, with over 2,000 reported killed in Lebanon and more than a million displaced. Even as U.S., Israeli, and Lebanese officials prepared for talks in Washington, Hezbollah rejected negotiations, casting doubt over any ceasefire breakthrough.
