Hyderabad: Heavy rains pounded northern Telangana on Thursday, with Mancherial, Jagtial and Adilabad districts recording the highest rainfall as the active monsoon spell continued across the state. The heavy spell led to waterlogging in low-lying areas, overflowing streams and disruptions to normal life.Hyderabad and its surrounding districts also witnessed intermittent spells of moderate to heavy rain throughout on Thursday. Several areas reported waterlogging and slow-moving traffic, while cloudy skies persisted for most of the day.According to the Telangana Development Planning Society (TGDPS), Tapalpur in Jannaram mandal of Mancherial district recorded the highest rainfall in the state at 162.8 mm till 6 pm on Thursday, followed by Kolvai in Beerpur mandal of Jagtial (149.5 mm) and Bharampur in Talamadugu mandal of Adilabad (127.5 mm). Other areas receiving over 100 mm of rainfall included Hajipur in Mancherial (113.3 mm), Gullakota and Velgatoor in Jagtial (111 mm each) and Buttapur in Nirmal (108.3 mm).The widespread rainfall has also substantially improved Telangana’s seasonal rainfall position. The state’s cumulative rainfall deficit has narrowed from 27% to 11%, bringing it into the normal rainfall category, as a deficit below 19% is classified as normal by meteorological standards.The IMD has forecast heavy rainfall at isolated places over Adilabad, Nirmal and Nizamabad districts on Friday. For Hyderabad, the weather office has predicted a generally cloudy sky with moderate to heavy rain or thundershowers, accompanied by strong surface winds of 30-40 kmph. The city is expected to record a maximum temperature of around 27°C and a minimum of 23°C. Authorities have advised residents in vulnerable areas to remain cautious as the active monsoon phase is expected to persist.
