Aizawl: Incessant rain over the past two days triggered landslides, rockfalls and retaining wall collapses across Mizoram, disrupting road connectivity in several areas, especially in the southern part of the state, disaster management and rehabilitation department officials said on Wednesday.No loss of life or serious injury was reported so far, officials said.In Lunglei district, four houses were swept away by a major landslide at Chawnpui locality in Tlabung town, near the Bangladesh border. The Khawthlangtuipui, a Mizoram-Bangladesh border river, was rising steadily following heavy rain, forcing five families to leave their homes on Tuesday. They were shifted to safer locations, including community halls.Officials said at least seven more families were being evacuated on Wednesday as the rising river threatened to submerge their houses.A major landslide on the outskirts of Bualte village in Lunglei blocked NH-54 early on Wednesday, cutting off Siaha and Lawngtlai districts from the rest of the state.Rockfalls at Ngaizel on the southern outskirts of Aizawl and at Ramhlun South in northern Aizawl caused inconvenience to commuters in the capital. Landslides and retaining wall collapses were also reported from several other places, including other districts.Heavy rain also disrupted power supply in many areas, while mobile phone and internet services were affected in some places, officials said.
