Ranchi: Southern and adjoining central districts of Jharkhand are likely to receive heavy to very heavy rain on Thursday as a deep depression over the Bay of Bengal moves inland, the Ranchi Meteorological Centre said on Wednesday.Very heavy rain is expected at isolated places in Simdega and West Singhbhum, while Ranchi, Khunti and Gumla may also receive intense showers. Heavy rain is forecast in East Singhbhum, Seraikela-Kharsawan, Lohardaga, Ramgarh, Hazaribag, Koderma and Bokaro.The weather office has also warned of thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds of 40-50 kmph in isolated areas.“Very heavy rain is likely in parts of southwest Jharkhand on Sept 24, while neighbouring districts may receive heavy rain. On Sept 25, the rain is expected to shift towards northwest Jharkhand and adjoining areas,” said Abhishek Anand, deputy director, Ranchi Met office.The rain is linked to a deep depression over the Bay of Bengal, which is expected to cross the north Andhra Pradesh-south Odisha coast near Kalingapatnam. The system is likely to weaken without developing into a cyclonic storm.On Friday, Hazaribag, Koderma and Giridih may receive isolated heavy rain. Thunderstorms and gusty winds are likely to continue across the state.“The system will increase rainfall activity over Jharkhand over the next two days,” said Baburaj PP, head of Ranchi Met office.In the past 24 hours, a few places received light rain accompanied by thunderstorms. Jamshedpur recorded the highest rainfall at 14.4 mm. Baharagora was the hottest place at 36.1°C, while Latehar recorded the lowest temperature of 19.5°C.
