MUMBAI: Heavy rains, a deadly fire at a residential building and an international city level conference are ruling the news headlines of Mumbai today. Mumbai’s monsoon has gathered pace again with more showers likely as the city’s seasonal rainfall crossed the 2000mm mark.The new spell has raised fears of waterlogging and disruption to transport and of vulnerable infrastructure deteriorating across the metro region.Meanwhile, tragedy struck Vile Parle West with a fire in a high-rise building claiming two lives including that of a 2.5-year-old child and injuring six others. Firefighters rushed to the 11th floor where the fire started, and emergency teams assisted residents in evacuating.Beside the rain and fire emergency, Mumbai is also hosting the BRICS Friendship Cities Conclave, which is taking place on August 11 and 12.
