Ahmedabad: Heavy rain early in the morning disrupted normal life and educational activities in the city and its surrounding rural areas. Taking into account the weather conditions, Ahmedabad city and rural district education officers (DEOs) issued instructions allowing schools to take independent decisions regarding closures based on local conditions and rainfall intensity. Most govt and private schools opted to suspend classes as a precautionary measure since several low-lying areas were waterlogged.While a few schools remained open, attendance remained sparse as parents prioritised their children’s safety. However, after nearly two hours of continuous rainfall, the intensity reduced and weather conditions improved. As a result, schools operating in the afternoon shift resumed classes in accordance with the usual schedule.Ahmedabad and nearby districts have been experiencing heavy rainfall since Thursday. Some schools, particularly in the western parts of the city, have already started conducting online classes from Monday, enabling students to continue their studies from home.Met department has forecast more rain in the coming days. The education department has reiterated that school authorities can continue to make decisions regarding closures based on local weather conditions, student safety being the top priority.
