Bokaro: Deputy commissioner Ajay Nath Jha inspected the Observation Home-cum-Place of Safety on Thursday after 18 juvenile inmates reported flu-like symptoms in the past 48 hours.Jha said out of 43 juveniles living in the facility, 16 were admitted to hospital for treatment. “Of these, 15 juveniles recovered and were discharged after being declared medically fit, while one juvenile continues to remain under medical observation as a precautionary measure,” he said.Jha spoke to doctors during his visit and directed officials to ensure uninterrupted healthcare services. Two more adolescents are being monitored at a special medical camp set up inside the observation home premises.The camp is being managed by a paediatrician and a general physician, who are regularly examining the adolescents. On the advice of Civil Surgeon Abhay Bhushan Prasad, preventive medicines are being administered to all adolescents to reduce the risk of infection.During the inspection, Jha instructed officials to further improve cleanliness and sanitation at the facility. The food safety officer has been asked to inspect the premises and take necessary action under prescribed safety protocols.A preliminary medical assessment suggests the illness is likely linked to seasonal weather changes. Officials said no evidence has emerged indicating any other cause of infection. The administration and health department are maintaining continuous surveillance, and the situation remains under control.
