Guwahati: Assam Pradesh BJP said assuming the position of the chairperson of the India-Philippines Friendship Group does not mean that Congress state president Gaurav Gogoi has been cleared of the charges of sedition against him.It added that Gaurav’s alleged links with Pakistan involve the interest of both India and Pakistan.
BJP spokesperson Devajit Mahanta said the Lok Sabha secretariat invites members from various political parties to constitute committees on different subjects. “The responsibility for selecting MPs for such committees rests with the Congress Parliamentary Board. Once the Congress parliamentary board submits its list of nominees, the secretariat announces the committees with the approval of the Speaker. This is a well-established parliamentary convention,” he added.Mahanta questioned why Congress workers did not promote or publicise MP Pradyut Bordoloi on social media when he was included in the committee formed to garner international support for Operation Sindoor, while “they are aggressively publicising the appointment of Gogoi.”He said Lok Sabha Speaker has appointed BJP state president and MP from Darrang-Udalguri, Dilip Saikia, as chairperson of the India-Thailand Friendship Group, and MP Ajit Bhuyan as a member of the India–Saudi group.“Therefore, merely being appointed as chairperson of the India-Philippines group does not absolve Gaurav of the charges of sedition. The investigation into his alleged Pakistan links will continue,” he added.The spokesperson said if Gogoi had indeed travelled with his wife to Taxila in Rawalpindi, he should make the photographs of himself, and his wife taken in Taxila public.“The Congress MP remains accused of sedition, and judicial institutions will, through due legal process, soon convict and punish him accordingly,” Mahanta said.
