NEW DELHI: For years, Shammi Narang’s voice has been a familiar sound for Delhi Metro commuters. But a recent journey turned into a memorable family moment when his young grandson heard that voice over the Metro’s announcement system for the first time.Narang, a former national news anchor with Doordarshan, recently took his grandson Rushaan on his first-ever ride on the Delhi Metro and shared a video of the experience on X.“I may not travel on these Metro trains forever… but I take immense pride in knowing that my voice will travel from one generation to another. From me to my little grandson, Rushaan, and perhaps one day to his grandchildren… and beyond, ” Shammi Narang tweeted.“Today, we took Rushaan on his very first Metro ride. He was equal parts amazed and bewildered to hear Dadu’s voice echoing through the train… a voice he knows, but in a place he had never heard it before. A rather special moment for us, ” Shammi added in a post. The child appeared surprised as the announcements began playing inside the train, eventually recognising the voice as that of his grandfather.Narang was seen holding Rushaan during the journey while the child’s parents encouraged him to identify the familiar voice. For Rushaan, however, the experience was less about the legacy behind the voice and more about the surprise of hearing his grandfather speak from the Metro’s announcement system. The family appeared to enjoy the moment as Rushaan gradually connected the voice he knew at home with the announcements playing inside the train. The video ended with Narang recreating the familiar announcement for Sultanpur station, giving the family outing an especially personal touch.
