Hyderabad: A group of property owners affected by the proposed 18-km Paradise Junction-Shamirpet Rajiv Rahadari elevated corridor project has secured interim relief from the Telangana high court, which suspended the land acquisition proceedings while hearing their challenge to the project.Justice K Sarath passed the order recently while hearing petitions filed by individuals owning properties along the proposed corridor, which stretches from Paradise Junction in Secunderabad to the Outer Ring Road junction at Shamirpet.The petitioners contended that the acquisition proceedings violated the provisions of the Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act, 2013, the Cantonments Act, and various constitutional provisions.They also argued that the authorities had illegally and arbitrarily rejected their objections to the acquisition process and urged the court to set aside the proceedings.The judge issued the directions in view of an earlier interim order passed in similar cases in Dec 2025. The court directed the state govt, Union govt (defence), defence estates officer, Secunderabad Cantonment Board, general officer commanding/sub-area commander, Telangana and Andhra Sub-Area, and the station commander-cum-president of the SCB to file their counters.The registry was also directed to tag the petition with a similar pending matter for further hearing.According to the petitioners, the high court had earlier granted interim relief in a connected case, and they requested the court to extend the same benefit in the present matter to ensure consistency.Opposing the plea, the assistant govt pleader acknowledged the existence of the earlier interim order but argued against granting a fresh stay. The state counsel informed the court that a counter-affidavit and a vacate stay petition had already been filed in the earlier writ petition and sought time to submit a counter in the present case. The counsel further urged the court not to pass any interim directions.After hearing both sides, the court observed that since an interim order had already been granted in the connected matter, the present case also deserved similar protection. It accordingly ordered an interim suspension of the impugned proceedings.
