Hyderabad: Telangana high court has come to the aid of two students whose original academic certificates were allegedly withheld by their college over unpaid tuition fees.The court directed the management of Jahnavi Degree College, Nallakunta, to return the original academic certificates of the two students who alleged that the documents were being withheld despite an earlier court order.The college had allegedly retained the certificates due to non-payment of tuition fees.The court also directed the station house officer of Nallakunta police station to communicate the order to the college management and ensure that it is complied with.Issuing the directions on Sept 18, Justice NV Shravan Kumar noted that the court had earlier ordered the college to return the students’ original SSC, Intermediate, BSc provisional degree and study certificates. However, counsel for the students informed the court that the management had failed to comply despite being served with the order.The students submitted that they were pursuing postgraduate studies and were required to participate in the second phase of TG CPGET-2026 counselling. Under the counselling notification, candidates must upload and physically produce their original certificates.They argued that continued withholding of the documents would prevent them from taking part in the counselling process and pursuing higher education. Counsel further submitted that attempts were made on two occasions to serve the court’s order on the college, but the management allegedly refused to comply.Counsel for the higher education department informed the court that the Telangana Council of Higher Education had already instructed universities and colleges not to insist on payment of tuition fees from students eligible for fee reimbursement and not to withhold original certificates on the ground that reimbursement dues from the govt were pending.
