Nagpur: The Nagpur bench of Bombay high court on Thursday issued a contempt notice to officials of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) for failing to pay agreed compensation of 11cr to Maharaj Bagh Club Limited in a land acquisition case.A division bench of Justice Anil Kilor and Justice Raj Wakode directed the superintending engineer and project director of NHAI, Nagpur, to file their response by April 1.

The contempt proceedings arose from the alleged non-compliance with an earlier HC order directing payment of compensation for land acquired for construction of a flyover and road widening between Regional Transport Office (RTO) and university area in the city. According to the Club, NHAI agreed to pay 11 crore as compensation for the acquired land. Despite the passage of nearly 2 years, the amount was not disbursed. After repeated representations failed to yield results, the Club earlier approached HC. Sahil Dewani appeared for the petitioner in the case.
