Hazaribag: Panic gripped Kutuma village under Ranichuwa panchayat late in the district on Saturday night after an elephant entered the area, prompting the administration to issue a public alert.Block development officer (BDO) Jaipal Mahto said information about the elephant’s movement was received late Saturday night, following which the forest department and other officials were alerted.“A forest department team is keeping close watch on the situation. Villagers were advised to remain cautious and avoid stepping out unnecessarily, especially during night,” he said.Mahto appealed to residents of nearby panchayats to stay vigilant and ensure that children are not allowed to venture out alone. He also urged people not to gather in crowds to see the animal or attempt to chase or provoke it.Officials asked villagers to immediately inform the local administration or forest department about any sighting or fresh movement of the elephant. The mukhiya, elected representatives and panchayat members were requested to spread awareness in their respective areas and ensure adherence to safety advisories. Announcements were also made in the village to alert residents.Officials said they are monitoring elephant movement in adjoining forest areas to prevent any untoward incident.Recently, a herd of five elephants trampled three persons to death in Hazaribag district.
