Hazaribag: Three young women — Megha Kumari (23), Ankita Tigga (22), and Shaheen Bhardwaj (22) — are in the fray for the Hazaribag Municipal Corporation election. Their participation reflects the interest of youths in grassroots politics.Inspired by her father and former councillor of Ward 3, Bobby Kumar, ward number 3 candidate and economic honours graduate from Vinoba Bhave University, Megha said, “My father is my biggest inspiration. Since childhood, I saw him serving people selflessly. I want to contribute to society by serving residents and addressing their problems.”
“Improving street lights and drainage system besides ensuring better sanitation in the ward are my top three priorities. Whether I become a ward councillor or not, I will always try to help people. My family’s door is always open for all,” she stated.Ward 11 candidate Ankita Tigga, a student of BA LLB (Semester 5) at the Vinoba Bhave University, said, “My decision to contest stemmed from witnessing poor maintenance of infrastructure in my ward since childhood. My priorities are waste management, adequate street lighting and road development in all areas.”Referring to drinking water, she said she would facilitate the installation of hand pumps or borewells, wherever required.Ankita also stressed accessibility. “I will stay connected both digitally and in person. Residents can reach out to me through my contact number.”Ankita’s father, Andherias Tigga, is a retired employee of St Robert Girls School.Shaheen Bhardwaj, who is pursuing her third year of BA (Hon) in English language and literature from St Xavier’s College, Ranchi, stressed accountability and inclusive growth.She said, “My father, Prafull Kumar, served as a ward councillor. Watching him address people’s problems inspired me to serve the community and work towards practical solutions.”Her key priorities include improving civic amenities, ensuring regular public interaction and accountability, and promoting safety and inclusive development, including the installation of CCTV cameras and organising health camps.She said she plans to conduct regular surveys, coordinate with municipal departments and stay connected through ward visits, public meetings, phone calls and a dedicated WhatsApp group for grievance redressal.
